Non – Intrusive Inspeciton
Non-intrusive inspection (NII) offers a comprehensive yet cost-effective insight into the health of vital plant and equipment. By removing the need to open a vessel, the costs of taking equipment offline and the resulting loss of production, are avoided. So too are the potential hazards of entry and manual inspection by workers. Our approach is to minimise the number of intrusive inspections without compromising safe and continued operation. To this end, we regularly carry out NIIs on pressure vessels.
There’s a balance that must be achieved between the benefits of conducting an NII and getting all the information necessary to ensure the continuing operation of plant and equipment. Which is why our engineers regularly conduct integrity reviews of vessels to determine whether the equipment is suitable for non-intrusive inspection.
A key aspect of the NII planning process is the integrity review. This brings together information from the corrosion risk assessment (CRA) and the equipment history to build the most complete picture of the corrosion damage that has already occurred and the damage mechanisms currently active.
